Google Analytics for website and Feedburner for RSS analytics. These generally are my first points of call as they are both free and very usable.

I hear Mint is very good but it isn't free and requires self hosting. Paid hosted options worth a mention are CrazyEgg, Clicky and Woopra.

As for measuring your site against competition you need to look at sites like Alexa, Compete and HitWise.

Alli, it'll be difficult to find that kind of specific information. Generally the people that are doing that research aren't giving away the answers for free.

There are a great number of tools that google offers for free that you can utilize as well... http://www.google.com/insights/search/# and then there is http://www.google.com/trends there is the keyword tool built into adwords, which requires an account, but you don't have to add a site and won't cost you anything that way. http://adwords.google.com and lastly, though not for long, there is the search-based keyword tool http://www.google.com/sktool/# Enjoy!
