What are some questions you ask a client before making a website?

  • -What is your budget? -How many pages are you thinking the website is going to have? -etc....

  • Ok, here we go:

Why do you want a (new) website?

    What is your audience?

What does the website have to tell?

Do you need of want a CMS?

Do you know of any websites you like?

Do you have preferences regarding colors, fonts, etc....

    etc. etc.

Budget is one of the last questions. If you came his far with the questions, your client really wants a website and the price is less relevant (within limits of course)

  • Thats good that you point out the budget last.

  • I would be more specific with the colors and webfonts.

Something like "What colors were you thinking of using (greens, blues, reds, oranges)." I try to avoid the client picking the exact shades if possible unless they know what they're doing.

Same goes for webfonts (serif, gothic, script, decorative). This way I have room to play when selecting.

  • To add to the above...

What sites do you like and what do you like about them?

What sites DON'T you like and what DON'T you like about them?

What browser do you/your company use?

  • "Do you really want a website?"

  • "Do you really NEED a website?"

You might lose a client. LOL
