[Solved] How to download whole web?

  • hi

    I have unusual question
"how can I download entire web at once?"
and I do not mean "Save as" every single page

in my portfolio I have this web
    http://krsiak.cz/501st.php

    link to actual web
    http://www.501st.cz/

my laptop got destroyed including my backup HDD
owner of the site is going to change the design for new one

I would like to have the files again
but don't ask me why, refuses me access to FTP even though I built the web
  • I think they only way is via FTP.

You could aslo download a .zip of the site if you have access to the Control Panel, but if you have access to that you'd have access to FTP.
  • Is there any reason why he won't download it for you and send it to you?
It's a shame he's changing it, I like it, very clean
  • I tried couple of tools from net but all downloaded it in very weird folder structure

it was my 1st web I ever did
I just wanted my files as I spent 3 months on it
that is when you do something for free without contract :]
  • you won't be able to download it without FTP, otherwise PHP wouldn't be secure

not sure about the laws where you are but you may possess intellectual ownership of the documents if you didn't charge for them, I'm not lawyer though
  • @karl

    thanks
I did this web in 2010 after reading all here on css tricks :]

    answer is simple
guy who is running it now "still lives in 90's"

when I finished the web he called me like 5 times that web looks weird
I visited him at work and he opened the web in Internet Explorer 3.1 or something similar

he said stuff like, no webmaster = no access (people are weird)
it was work for free, so my shame I guess
  • At least you can download all the images and script with "save page as"
Take as many screenshots as possible and try asking him nicely again and again and again :D
  • will try this, might help
    http://www.httrack.com/

if not working it will be very dull afternoon to copy / paste whole web :]
  • No need to get additional software,
open Google Chrome, click the wrench menu and then click Save Page As...
  • Try SiteSucker. It will download the entire website for you.
  • You'll be a hero around these parts if you could convert him into a Firefox / Chrome user. I'd try that, if at all possible, but it doesn't sound like it is.

Have you explained to him that your laptop broke?
