is there a program that turn abbreviations intro full words (for macs)

hi
I was wondering if there is a program where I can tell it something like, if I type "wd'' turn it into "web design"
Also, I just got my first mac, is there any programs I "must have"? I know about TextMate, Coda, Omnifocus and MAMP.
