I'm interested in the first one although I think you need to create some unique grain on the icon. Making different parts more grainy would move the eye around a bit better. The second one has a motorola vibe, so it's too familiar for me.
Colour, values, and texture aside, it has a very solid and symmetrical composition.
#1 also has the strongest typography. Having the two font weights really helps me realize that Jan Mense is your name, rather than Janmense acting as one word. I think the second line of text looks nicer in a lighter weight instead of how its bolded in #2.
Also if you're really set on working in your J to the logo, maybe something (roughly) along the lines of this ? http://i.min.us/igBp1BOKdXNr1.jpg
i actually redesign my website and want to use also a new logo for it.
My name is jan mense and my name will allways be shown next to the logo!

Please give me some feedback, thanks!
I hope this helps.
If you can somehow integrate a more vivid j and m merged into a single element in the center logo, I think it would "pop" a little more for me.
Nice work.
i tried to get the J into my logo and also tried a sans-serif font, i think it works better now, what do you think?

the 2nd one reminds me of a 37 signals app a little to much.
I think with the way the first one is lined up above the M in your name it seems to work.
my 2 cents

Overall I think you nailed it though - good work.
