which i am trying to make look more professional looking, and was wondering what people would consider changing/adding/removing to make this happen. i do want to make the navigation list more exciting, but struggling for ideas at the moment.
Make up some fictitious brief that plays with your skills and execute it. There is nothing like a good challenge to play with our strengths....
It looks like it will be a fairly basic site without too much content. You could use ajax to swap the content with a cool fade or slide effect?
I would do something with the header, I thought EPR was a lawncare service at first (looks like grass). Also its like a big block all by itself while the rest of the site is very open and free flowing. Just looks strangely out of place.
Something odd about the navigational links too. Don't know, but I think it's the colour combination of green and blue. Also, I'd enjoyed it more if you could get the content a tad up.
If "Professional" is the look you are going for I think that green crayon stuff is the biggest hindrance.
The font up there is nice, maybe just put it on a solid dark color background, full width header area. Then echo that same full-width dark color stripe as a footer, leaving the main content area white. That dark/light/dark look is very professional. Also make sure you watch your grid. Sticking to a grid and having things line up nicely is key to a professional look.
wow, thanks for all your comments. i agree, the website really didnt look right did it. ive tried to take your advice and heres what ive come up with: http://www.epr-uk.com/redesign2/home.html
the only problem is with the footer, im trying to get it to stretch all the way along. ill figure it out eventually.

Much better than the original. Make your navigation a bit more noticeable though. At first I didnt even realize that they were links until I hovered over them.

Just my 2 cents.

780px may be a little narrow now a days but the design looks way better.

finally ad some css opacity tricks to the text or surrounding photos :geek:
