Is Starkers still the best place to start a new WP theme from? I have been using starkers as a base to my Wordpress themes for sometime now. But I was just about to start a new site when I suddenly thought, 'Is this still the best default starting theme?'
Are any of you out there using Starkers, and what are your thoughts on it?
Or do you perhaps use an alternative starting theme, or even just start from a blank .php file?
I'm going to have to claim naivety here, I have only heard about Starkers on this forum and I haven't looked into it (nor really know what it is). For the few WP themes that I've marked up, I've started with a blank php file and just go piece by piece. I think I'd hate feeling restricted to a template.
I've tried about 3-4 different "base" templates, and for me Starkers really is the best. Most templates just have too much to rip out to make it work for you and I don't quite want to code it from the absolute ground up.
What I've done with Starkers is created 2-3 different versions of it, like a horizontal menu, vertical menu in fixed and fluid configurations. So I just kind of pick the type of basic configuration and then I'm adding to it.

Would love to know your thoughts on this.
