I personally enjoy using the open source php based cms concrete5 if you understand basic php it's not very hard to create a theme, and clients seem to find it pretty intuitive to use, as it most editing is done in-context.
I've used Perch on a small project and is very easy to use, minimal intrusion and support is very good. Would actually use more often for small sites if it was free.
Also heard good things about Kirby but not used it myself.
Hey guys,
What would be the best CMS to use for small websites besides Wordpress, that is not too hard to use?
Perch CMS gets a lot of good remarks - never personally used it though.
Some people have been praising Kirby

Another option to consider might be http://www.statamic.com although not free.
I'd go with Kirby if you're familiar with a little PHP. It's much easier to maintain and code than Wordpress, in my opinion.
