I am trying to have this one button initiate multiple actions at different times. I would like to have the bus slide in then have the message fade in on the phone.
I think I have it set up right, but it must be wrong somewhere.

Your css style for bus class is wrong. You should use background not content.
Forgot to mention, give it a height and width as well, and set it to no-repeat
