I think it was called "Status", or "StatusHQ." It's never possible to know exactly why some projects do well and other don't... but here are some guesses.
- Me and Richard were way crappier designers and developers at the time - Yammer (https://www.yammer.com/) came out right at that time and was pretty awesome - Just didn't provide enough value to be worth paying for right off the line - We gave up pretty early and did AMSU instead
To answer your usage questions, I think we had a few hundred people try it and maybe one or two pay for it.
